Interstate criminal with ₹1L reward arrested after Gurgaon shootout

A joint police operation by teams from Gurgaon and Mewat led to the dramatic arrest of a notorious interstate criminal carrying a reward of one lakh rupees, following a late-night exchange of gunfire on the busy Sohna-Gurgaon road on Sunday.

The Encounter and Arrest

Acting on specific intelligence, a blockade was established near Mahendwara village. At approximately 10:15 PM, police attempted to stop a suspicious man riding a motorcycle without a registration number. The rider, later identified as Yadram (50), immediately opened fire at the police team in a bid to escape. In the ensuing shootout, a total of ten rounds were exchanged—six fired by the accused and four by the police in retaliation.

One bullet struck the door of a government vehicle, another hit the bonnet, and a third was stopped by the bulletproof jacket worn by Sub-Inspector Lalit Kumar. The police response in self-defence resulted in the accused being shot in both legs. He was subsequently overpowered and taken into custody. Police administered first aid at the scene before shifting him to a local civil hospital for treatment.

Weapons Recovered and Criminal History

Following the encounter, a thorough inspection of the spot was conducted by teams from the fingerprint bureau, forensic science laboratory, and the scene-of-crime unit. The police recovered significant evidence, including the numberless Honda Livo motorcycle, a helmet, one country-made pistol, one pistol, nine empty cartridges, and two live cartridges.

Police records reveal that Yadram, a native of Auraiya district in Uttar Pradesh currently residing in Jaipur, Rajasthan, is a seasoned criminal. He is implicated in nearly two dozen serious cases across Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Haryana. His criminal portfolio includes charges of attempted murder, robbery, theft, housebreaking, and violations of the Arms Act. The substantial ₹1 lakh reward on his head was announced in connection with a housebreaking and theft case at a jeweller's shop registered at Pingwa police station in Nuh.

Legal Proceedings and Official Statement

An attempt to murder case and a case under the Arms Act have been registered against Yadram at the Bhondsi police station. The charges are framed under BNS sections 109(1), 121(1), 132, 221 and Arms Act section 25(1-B)(a) for attacking the police team and obstructing government work. The accused will be formally arrested after he is discharged from medical care, with further investigation and interrogation currently underway.

Commenting on the successful operation, Gurgaon police spokesman Sandeep Kumar stated that strict action will continue against criminals and those who attack law enforcement personnel. He reiterated that maintaining public safety remains the top priority for the police force.
