Pune IPS Officer Files Rs 10 Lakh Fraud Case Against Event Manager Over Wedding Reception
The Chatushrungi police in Pune have registered a formal cheating case against an event manager from Ahilyanagar, following allegations that he defrauded an IPS officer and his family of Rs 10 lakh. The incident revolves around the officer's wedding reception held on March 3 this year, where the accused allegedly failed to execute promised decoration work despite receiving substantial advance payment.
Complaint Filed by Officer's Sister
The case came to light when the IPS officer's 38-year-old sister, a resident of Aundh, lodged an official complaint with the Chatushrungi police station on Monday. The officer, currently posted in Uttar Pradesh, had recently gotten married in Pune and organized a reception at the prestigious Centre for Police Research (CPR) on Pashan Road. The event was attended by numerous senior state government officials, fellow IPS officers, and other distinguished guests.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the officer's family had hired the event manager to handle all decoration aspects for the reception venue. A contract was finalized for Rs 13 lakh, with the family paying Rs 10 lakh in advance as per the agreement.
Failed Decoration Work During Prestigious Event
Senior Inspector Uttam Bhajnawale of Chatushrungi police provided detailed insights into the alleged fraud. The event manager had specifically promised to arrange flowers, lighting systems, and various decorative items, assuring completion a full day before the reception ceremony. However, he completely failed to meet this deadline.
"The decoration work remained incomplete even as guests began arriving for the reception," explained Bhajnawale. "Shockingly, the event manager continued working at the venue while the reception was already underway. His incomplete efforts persisted even as guests started leaving the venue, causing significant embarrassment and dissatisfaction for the IPS officer and his family."
The police investigation reveals that the IPS officer eventually had to conclude the reception ceremony in a hurried manner before leaving the venue prematurely due to the unsatisfactory arrangements.
Police Action and Investigation Status
Following the formal complaint registration, Chatushrungi police have initiated proper legal proceedings. "We have registered the complaint based on the evidence presented and have sent an official notice to the event manager," confirmed Senior Inspector Bhajnawale. The case highlights growing concerns about professional misconduct in the event management industry, particularly when dealing with high-profile clients and important family occasions.
The police are now investigating multiple aspects of the case:
- The exact terms and conditions of the decoration contract
- The timeline of payments made to the event manager
- Previous professional history and complaints against the accused
- Potential similar cases involving the same event manager
This incident serves as a cautionary tale for those hiring event management services, emphasizing the importance of verified references, proper contracts, and staged payment schedules rather than substantial advance payments.
