Income Tax Inspector Fatally Stabbed by Son in Latur Village Following Domestic Argument
A tragic incident unfolded in Latur district on Tuesday morning, resulting in the death of a 54-year-old income tax inspector who was allegedly stabbed by his own son. The shocking event occurred at the family's residence in Khopegav village, located approximately 7 kilometers from the Latur rural police station.
Details of the Fatal Confrontation
The deceased has been identified as Krishnakumar Sanmukhrao, an inspector with the income tax department posted in Latur district. The accused is his elder son, Shantanu Sanmukhrao (29). According to Superintendent of Police Amol Tambe, the preliminary investigation revealed that a quarrel initially broke out between Krishnakumar and his wife over domestic issues.
During this argument, Shantanu intervened, escalating the situation into a heated confrontation between father and son. In a fit of rage, Shantanu allegedly stabbed his father in the chest with a kitchen knife, leading to fatal injuries. The incident took place around 9:45 AM on February 3.
Immediate Aftermath and Police Response
After Shantanu stabbed his father, other family members raised an alarm, prompting neighbours to rush to the spot. Krishnakumar was quickly taken to a hospital; however, he had already succumbed to the injuries due to excessive bleeding. The police acted swiftly, arresting Shantanu within hours of the incident.
The FIR was lodged later in the afternoon by the victim's younger son, Sameer Sanmukhrao (23). In his complaint, Sameer stated that Shantanu was upset with his father for allegedly not providing money for their mother's medical treatment and accused him of neglecting family responsibilities. The quarrel intensified, after which Shantanu allegedly picked up a vegetable-cutting knife and attacked his father with the intention to kill, stabbing him below the neck.
Legal Proceedings and Investigation
A case has been registered at the Latur rural police station under section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused has been taken into custody, and further legal procedures have been initiated. After the postmortem, the body was handed over to the family for the last rites.
The police have indicated that the incident stemmed from domestic reasons, and they are currently verifying the statements of family members to establish the exact sequence of events. This tragic case highlights the severe consequences that can arise from unresolved family disputes and emotional turmoil.
