Fresh Case Filed Against Anukalp Mishra
Anukalp Mishra, the prime accused in the theft of donation boxes from the Ram temple in Ayodhya, has been booked in yet another criminal case. His aunt, identified as Savita Mishra, lodged a complaint at the Kotwali police station in Ayodhya on Tuesday, accusing him of robbery and assault. The new case adds to the legal troubles of Mishra, who is currently lodged in jail.
According to the police, the complaint states that on the night of July 5, Mishra allegedly broke into his aunt's house along with two accomplices. They are accused of stealing cash and jewelry worth approximately ₹5 lakh and assaulting Savita Mishra when she tried to resist. The police have registered a case under sections 394 (robbery) and 323 (voluntary causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code.
Aunt Alleges Assault and Theft
Savita Mishra, in her statement to the police, claimed that Anukalp Mishra had been threatening her for some time. She said that on the day of the incident, he came to her house with two unidentified men and demanded money. When she refused, they allegedly beat her and ransacked the house, taking away gold ornaments and cash. She added that she had previously complained to the police about his behavior but no action was taken.
“He (Anukalp) has been a constant source of trouble. He came with two others and attacked me. They took all my savings and jewelry. I demand strict action against him,” Savita Mishra told reporters outside the police station. The police have begun an investigation and are examining CCTV footage from the area.
Background of the Ram Temple Theft Case
Anukalp Mishra was arrested in June 2026 for allegedly stealing donation boxes from the under-construction Ram temple in Ayodhya. The theft, which occurred in May 2026, had caused a major controversy, with temple authorities claiming that a significant amount of money was missing. Mishra, a local resident, was identified through CCTV footage and was later remanded to judicial custody. He has been in jail since his arrest.
The Ram temple trust had filed a complaint after noticing that the donation boxes were tampered with. The police recovered some cash from Mishra’s possession but the exact amount stolen is still being ascertained. The case has been a high-profile one given the religious significance of the temple.
Legal Proceedings and Next Steps
With the new case, Mishra faces additional charges. The police have informed the court about the fresh FIR. A senior police officer said, “We are investigating the new complaint thoroughly. If found guilty, he will face separate proceedings.” Mishra’s lawyer has not yet commented on the new allegations. The court is likely to take up the matter during his next hearing, which is scheduled for next week.
The aunt’s allegations have raised questions about Mishra’s criminal background. Local residents have expressed shock, with some saying that Mishra had a history of petty crimes. “He was always a troublemaker. This is not surprising,” said a neighbor. The police have assured that all angles will be probed.
