Doctor's Rs 50 Lakh Cash Stolen in Jaipur by Domestic Help, Rs 33 Lakh Recovered

Arrests and Recovery Made by Police
DCP (south) Rajarshi Raj Varma identified the accused as domestic help Sumit Khetan, aged 38, and Seema Saini, aged 34. Both were arrested after intensive interrogation. Varma stated, 'The two exploited insider access, surveillance knowledge, and timing to execute the theft. Rs 33 lakh has been recovered so far.' The investigation revealed that the doctor had hidden the cash in the kitchen on February 22, and Sumit allegedly witnessed this act, later using his access to the CCTV system to confirm the exact location.
Suspicious Events Leading to the Theft
According to police investigators, the theft was meticulously planned. Two days after the cash was hidden, intruders attempted a break-in but failed, with authorities now examining whether this was a diversion tactic. On February 25, CCTV cameras were serviced, exposing wiring and creating blind spots. The next day, only the kitchen camera stopped working, which police believe was a deliberate act to facilitate the theft.
The theft remained undetected until March 19, when the family's pet dog died under suspicious circumstances. This prompted the doctor to check the hidden cash, only to find it missing. Police reported that both accused initially tried to mislead investigators but confessed during questioning. Sumit allegedly disabled the kitchen camera after studying the footage and enlisted Seema, who worked in the kitchen, to remove the cash without raising suspicion. After the theft, both continued working in the house to avoid detection.
