Jaipur Police Swiftly Respond to Harassment of Japanese Tourist Near Jaigarh Fort
In a prompt action following the alleged harassment of a Japanese tourist near Jaigarh Fort, Jaipur police on Tuesday arrested one accused and detained a minor, while intensifying efforts to apprehend three others who are currently evading capture.
Incident Details and Police Response
The distressing event unfolded on Sunday around 8 am when the tourist, who had recently arrived in Rajasthan, was walking along a secluded stretch near Jaigarh Palace in Amber. According to police reports, five youths intercepted her, engaged in misbehavior, and outraged her modesty. The tourist managed to raise an alarm and flee towards a nearby security guard, who immediately alerted the authorities. The accused fled the scene shortly after.
Additional DCP (North) Neeraj Pathak provided an update, stating, "We have arrested one person identified as Ameenudhin, aged 24 and a resident of the Ramganj police station area, in this connection and detained a minor. Our teams are conducting extensive raids to arrest the remaining three accused."
Legal Actions and Investigation Progress
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Amber police station against all five accused. Police have scanned over 50 CCTV footage from the area and surrounding routes, employing technical surveillance to track the absconding suspects.
DCP (North) Karan Sharma emphasized the commitment to swift justice, saying, "Surely, we will file an early charge-sheet and may take the case under the case officers' scheme for faster prosecution." He added that all five accused have been identified, though some names are being withheld pending arrest and age verification. Efforts are ongoing as the remaining accused were not found at their residences, and the investigation continues.
Context and Broader Implications
This incident follows another case reported about nine days ago in Jaipur, where a video surfaced showing youths misbehaving with a foreign woman under the pretext of taking selfies, which is being investigated by Brahmpuri police. The recurrence highlights ongoing concerns about tourist safety in the region.
Officials have reiterated that further investigation is underway, with a focus on ensuring accountability and preventing such incidents in the future. The police's proactive measures, including the use of technology and legal frameworks, aim to bolster security for both domestic and international visitors in Jaipur.
