Jajpur Mason Arrested for Alleged Rape and Impregnation of Minor Co-Worker

In a distressing incident from Odisha's Jajpur district, a 26-year-old mason has been taken into custody by local authorities on Thursday. The arrest follows serious allegations of rape and impregnation involving a 17-year-old girl who was employed alongside him as a daily wage laborer.

Mother's Complaint Leads to Police Action

The survivor's mother officially lodged a First Information Report (FIR) on Wednesday, bringing the harrowing situation to light. In her complaint, she asserted that the accused individual had been sexually exploiting her daughter over a period of five months, which ultimately resulted in the teenager becoming pregnant.

"Acting promptly on the complaint, our team initiated a thorough investigation and subsequently arrested the accused under specific legal provisions," stated Ashis Kumar Sahoo, the investigation officer overseeing the case. "He has been charged under BNS section 70(2), which pertains to the rape of a woman below 18 years of age, as well as under the stringent Pocso Act."

Concealed Relationship and Threats Revealed

According to police reports, the two individuals had managed to keep their relationship hidden from others. When the minor girl informed the mason about her pregnancy, he reportedly responded by threatening her, explicitly warning her not to disclose his identity as the father of the unborn child.

It was only after the survivor's mother observed noticeable physical changes in her daughter that she grew suspicious about a possible pregnancy. This suspicion prompted her to take immediate action by filing the formal complaint with the police, setting the legal process in motion.

Medical Examination and Legal Proceedings

The young survivor underwent a medical examination at the Jajpur district headquarters hospital, where doctors confirmed that she was approximately four months pregnant. This medical evidence played a crucial role in substantiating the allegations made in the FIR.

"The accused was presented before a Jajpur court on Thursday, where his bail application was firmly rejected," the investigation officer added. "The court decided to remand him to judicial custody, ensuring he remains detained as the legal proceedings advance."

Minor's Statement and Protective Measures

The minor girl was also produced before the court, where her statement was officially recorded under BNS section 183. This specific provision deals with the recording of statements and confessions in cases involving offences against women and children, ensuring proper legal documentation.

In a move to provide safety and support, the survivor has been transferred to a government-run short-stay home located in Jajpur. This facility is designed to offer temporary shelter and care for individuals in vulnerable situations, particularly in cases involving minors.

The arrest highlights ongoing concerns about the safety and protection of young workers, especially in informal labor sectors. Authorities continue to investigate the full circumstances surrounding the case, emphasizing the importance of legal safeguards for minors under Indian law.
