Jalandhar Police Apprehend Gang Member in Encounter
The CIA Staff of Jalandhar Commissionerate Police arrested a member of the foreign-based 'Lucky Patial' gang, Yodh Singh alias Yodha, after a brief encounter at Shahpur village near Jalandhar. The accused had fired gunshots at the gate of a private hospital in the city in February this year.
Details of the Operation
Police teams intercepted Yodh Singh, a resident of Shahkot, during a special operation. In an attempt to evade arrest, the accused opened fire on the police team. Acting in self-defence, the police retaliated, leading to an exchange of fire. During the encounter, Yodh Singh sustained a bullet injury to his left leg. He was immediately shifted to Civil Hospital in Jalandhar, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Legal Action and Charges
An FIR has been registered against the accused at the Sadar police station under sections relating to attempt to murder of police officials, firing at a police team, obstructing public servants from discharging their duties, and offences under the Arms Act.
Background of the Accused
Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar, Satinder Singh stated that the accused was involved in multiple FIRs registered at various police stations across different districts of Punjab, including Moga, for serious offences such as organised crime, extortion, attempt to murder, and violations under the NDPS Act and Arms Act. The accused had carried out the shootout outside the Jalandhar hospital on the instructions of a Canada-based individual who had a dispute with the hospital owner.
Seized Items
The police seized two .32 bore pistols, two live cartridges, two empty cartridges, and an unregistered black and blue Bajaj Discover motorcycle from his possession.
