In a significant development, the Jalandhar Rural police have successfully arrested a man who was wanted in connection with a firing case that occurred in December 2025. The arrest took place on Friday following a brief encounter, during which the accused sustained a bullet injury to his arm due to retaliatory action by the police. The individual has been identified as Lovepreet Singh, also known by his alias Lavi, and he is a resident of Bholath. Lovepreet Singh was actively sought by the authorities in relation to a firing incident that transpired on December 19, 2025. This unfortunate event resulted in two students sustaining injuries after shots were fired during a dispute between two rival groups. The conflict was centered around college elections within the Jalandhar district. On the same day as the initial firing, one of the accused individuals was injured in a subsequent gunfight with the police. However, Lovepreet managed to evade capture and remained on the run until his recent apprehension.

Senior Superintendent of Police H S Virk provided insights into the operation that led to Lovepreet Singh's arrest. The police had received confidential information indicating that the main accused in the case was present in the Alawalpur area and its adjoining regions. Acting on this tip-off, a police party was deployed to locate and apprehend him.
According to SSP Virk, when the accused was spotted riding an unregistered motorcycle, he was signaled to stop by the police. In response, Lovepreet fired two rounds at the police party, prompting retaliatory firing from the officers. During this exchange, he sustained a gunshot injury to his right arm. The police managed to apprehend him in his injured condition and immediately transported him to a hospital for medical treatment to ensure his well-being.

During the preliminary investigation following his arrest, it was revealed that Lovepreet Singh already has a criminal record. SSP Virk stated that three separate criminal cases have been registered against him at different police stations, highlighting his involvement in previous unlawful activities.
