Jhansi Police Arrest Three in Arms Smuggling Case

Jhansi: Police on Saturday arrested three individuals, including two siblings, allegedly involved in arms smuggling, along with a huge cache of firearms, ammunition, knives, cash, and jewelry.

Arrest and Seizure Details

According to police, the three accused were caught while waiting for a customer at an isolated place near a school in the Sipri Bazar area. The accused have been identified as Sant Dayanand Maharaj alias Bobby (26), his brother Vivek Chauhan (21), and their landlord Mukesh Srivas (53).

Police recovered three 12-bore handguns, two 315-bore handguns, one 32-bore revolver, one pistol, approximately 120 live and empty cartridges, five Rampuri knives, jewelry, and Rs 2.87 lakh in cash from the possession of the accused. All accused have been booked under sections 3, 4, 7, 25, and 27 of the Arms Act at the Sipri Bazar police station and have been sent to judicial remand.

Ongoing Investigation

As per SP City, Preeti Singh, the accused have been involved in arms supply for quite some time. “We are investigating the back channel from where they procured the arms as well as their customers, including the one to whom they were to hand over the consignment at the time of their arrest,” Singh said.

The police are now focusing on tracing the source of the weapons and the network of buyers. Further arrests are expected as the investigation deepens.
