The Jharkhand High Court on Wednesday directed the state government to find a solution for restoring a vehicle that was allegedly auctioned and sold in haste by the Latehar district administration. The court asked the chief secretary to examine the matter and submit a solution within a month.
Case Background
The case pertains to a truck belonging to Ashok Singh, which was confiscated by the Latehar district administration for allegedly transporting illegal minerals. During the pendency of Singh’s challenge against the confiscation, the Latehar deputy commissioner auctioned and sold the truck to another person at a reportedly low price.
Court's Direction
The division bench of the high court, while hearing the petition, expressed concern over the haste with which the auction was conducted. The court directed the chief secretary to look into the matter and come up with a solution to restore the vehicle to its rightful owner. The matter is scheduled to be heard again on June 17.
This order comes as a relief to Ashok Singh, who had challenged the confiscation and subsequent auction of his truck. The court's intervention aims to ensure that due process is followed in such cases and that the rights of vehicle owners are protected.
