Bus Overturns in Jind District After High-Speed Collision; Driver Allegedly on Video Call
A major road accident occurred in Jind district on Tuesday when a bus overturned after colliding with a divider and a parked loading vehicle near Baroda village in Uchana Kalan town. The incident, which took place during the bus's journey from Uchana to Jind, resulted in serious injuries to 5-6 individuals, including the driver, with more than 50 passengers on board at the time.
Eyewitness Accounts Reveal Distracted Driving and High Speed
According to eyewitnesses, the bus was traveling at an excessively high speed when it reached the vicinity of Baroda village. A woman passenger, Praveen from Dumarkhan village, stated that the driver, Sandeep Kumar, was engaged in a video call on his phone, leading to a loss of control. She described how the bus first struck a divider and then rammed into a loading vehicle parked on the roadside, causing the bus to overturn.
The loading vehicle, driven by Pankaj from Uchana, was severely damaged and broke into several parts. Pankaj, who had stopped to relieve himself, narrowly escaped injury as he was outside the vehicle at the moment of impact. He immediately contacted the 112 emergency helpline, prompting a swift police response.
Injuries and Emergency Response
The injured passengers were quickly shifted to hospitals in Uchana and Jind for medical treatment. Bus driver Sandeep Kumar, a resident of Thua village in Jind district, suffered fractures in both legs and was referred to PGIMS Rohtak, where his condition remains serious. Traffic police incharge Shamsher Singh confirmed that around 5-6 people sustained serious injuries, while many others had minor injuries.
Shamsher Singh emphasized that the police rushed to the spot upon receiving information and coordinated the evacuation efforts. He reiterated that the bus was operating at a high speed, contributing to the severity of the accident.
