Juvenile Held for Shooting Student in Delhi's Amar Colony

NEW DELHI: A 16-year-old juvenile was apprehended on Tuesday evening for allegedly shooting a boy in the head in Southeast Delhi’s Amar Colony, police said. The incident occurred around 7:54 pm when the Class 12 student was eating with a female friend.

Incident Details

According to a senior police officer, a group of youths brushed past the victim's chair, and one of them allegedly stared at the pair, prompting the student to object. The group initially left, with one youth saying, “koi baat nahi” (never mind), but returned about five minutes later and opened fire at close range. One round was fired, striking the student in the head.

The injured student was rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where he remains in critical condition. The girl escaped unhurt but is said to be in shock, police added.

Police Investigation

Police sources revealed that the apprehended juvenile had previously been involved in another shooting incident in Kalkaji. Authorities are also searching for at least two of his associates. “The apprehended suspect is believed to be the shooter and is being questioned about the motive behind the attack and the source of the firearm,” sources said.

Further investigation is underway to uncover the full circumstances of the shooting and to locate the remaining suspects. Police are also examining if the incident is linked to any prior rivalry or gang activity.
