A horrific incident of fratricide has shaken the Barra Vishwabank H-Block Colony in Kanpur. A 42-year-old visually impaired man, Kundan, was brutally murdered by his younger brother, Chandan, and the latter's friend, Raju Chaurasiya, in the early hours of Wednesday.
The Night of the Tragedy
The fatal altercation took place around 1 am on Wednesday night. According to police, the dispute erupted when Kundan opposed his brother Chandan and friend Raju Chaurasiya's habit of consuming alcohol and their subsequent misbehaviour. Tired of the constant nuisance, Kundan confronted the duo, which led to a violent argument.
In a fit of rage, Chandan and Raju allegedly attacked Kundan with an iron rod, striking him on the head. Not stopping there, they also stabbed him with a knife. The assault proved fatal, leaving Kundan lying in a pool of blood.
Sister's Intervention and Arrest
Hearing commotion from upstairs, the victims' sister, Kanchan, rushed to the scene. She was horrified to find her elder brother Kundan critically injured. She immediately raised an alarm, alerting neighbours.
With the help of the local residents, Kanchan managed to catch hold of one of the accused, Raju Chaurasiya. The group chased him, restrained him, and then informed the police by dialling the emergency number UP-112. Meanwhile, the main accused, Chandan, who works as a painter, fled the scene and is currently absconding.
Police Investigation and Family Background
DCP South Deependranath Chaudhary promptly reached the crime spot with a police force and a forensic team. Evidence was collected from the scene, and residents in the vicinity were questioned to piece together the sequence of events.
Police officials stated that the murder was a direct result of Kundan's opposition to the accused's drinking and abusive behaviour. "When opposed for drinking alcohol and hurling abuses, the youth and his friend murdered his visually impaired brother by striking his head with an iron rod and stabbing him," confirmed an officer.
The family, consisting of siblings Kundan, Chandan, and Kanchan, lived together in the colony. Kanchan revealed to the police that Chandan had a habit of regularly bringing friends home to consume alcohol, a practice that Kundan consistently disapproved of. On the fateful night, Chandan had returned home in an inebriated state with Raju and resumed drinking, leading to the abusive altercation that ended in tragedy.
While the accomplice, Raju Chaurasiya, has been arrested, the police are conducting intensive raids to locate and apprehend the absconding younger brother, Chandan. The investigation is ongoing.
