In a shocking incident of brutal retaliation, a 35-year-old petrol pump attendant was allegedly murdered by a man and his nephew in Kanpur's Govind Nagar area. The crime, which occurred on Sunday night, stemmed from a verbal altercation during a drinking session the previous day.
A Brutal Act of Vengeance
The victim, identified as Rahul Awasthi, was taken from his home around 10:45 PM on Sunday. The prime accused, Kamta, and his nephew, both in an inebriated state, lured Rahul out. They took him on a motorcycle to the secluded Nirala Nagar railway ground. There, the assailants subjected him to a horrific ordeal. They stripped him naked, beat him mercilessly with a belt, and ultimately crushed his head with a brick, leading to his instantaneous death.
The perpetrators fled the scene, leaving Rahul's naked and mutilated body on the ground. The body was discovered on Monday morning, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Father's Suspicion Leads to Breakthrough
Ram Prakash Awasthi, Rahul's father and a security guard at an oil depot in Naubasta grain market, was the first to raise the alarm. After his son failed to return home, he lodged a police case. In his complaint, he expressed suspicion towards his son's friend, Kamta. Acting swiftly on this lead, the police took Kamta into custody for interrogation.
During questioning, Kamta confessed to the murder and revealed his nephew's involvement. He disclosed that the motive was revenge for an insult. During a drinking session on Saturday, Rahul had verbally abused Kamta. Unable to stomach the humiliation, Kamta conspired with his nephew to teach Rahul a fatal lesson.
Family Background and Police Action
Rahul Awasthi, a salesman at the Hindustan Petroleum pump in Ramaipur, was married to Maya Devi from Panki's Sarai Meeta just three years ago. His father revealed that marital discord had surfaced within 15 days of the wedding. The family, facing financial constraints, had only one mobile phone, which Rahul handed over before leaving home on his fatal last outing.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) confirmed the confession and the arrest. Both accused will be presented in court on Tuesday and are expected to be sent to jail. The police have assured that strict legal action will be taken against the perpetrators for this heinous crime.
This gruesome murder highlights the extreme and violent consequences that can arise from personal disputes, leaving a family shattered and a community in fear.
