The incident occurred on Friday, leaving the victim, Kusmadevi, shaken but ultimately leading to the swift arrest of the culprits thanks to CCTV evidence.
How the Theft Unfolded
According to police reports, Ashish Kumar, a resident of Jawahar Nagar, had stepped out to a neighbor's house on Wednesday afternoon, leaving his elderly mother, Kusmadevi, alone at home. Seizing the opportunity, two youths arrived on a motorcycle and entered the premises under false pretenses.
They engaged Kusmadevi in conversation, claiming they needed to weigh the gas cylinder for inspection purposes. Once inside the kitchen, they swiftly removed the installed cylinder and escaped on their bike before she could react.
CCTV Footage Leads to Arrests
The entire incident was captured by a CCTV camera installed at a house opposite the victim's residence. This crucial footage provided clear images of the suspects, enabling police to identify and track them down. Authorities acted promptly, arresting the accused from Barauli Road.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sumit, son of Lala Singh, and Krishna, son of Vishwamohan, both residents of Trilokpur village in Chaubeypur. Police recovered the stolen gas cylinder from their possession during the arrest.
Criminal Background of the Accused
Investigations revealed that one of the accused, Sumit, has a significant criminal record. He already faces half-a-dozen cases, including charges under the Arms Act and for attempt to murder, registered against him at the Chaubeypur police station.
