Kanpur Land Mafia Scam: Jailed Gajendra Negi Faces New Rs 69.5 Lakh Fraud Case
Kanpur: New Rs 69.5 Lakh Fraud Case Against Jailed Land Mafia

In a fresh legal blow to the notorious land mafia operating in Kanpur, a local businessman has filed another police complaint against the already incarcerated Gajendra Singh Negi. The case, registered at Rawatpur police station, alleges a massive financial fraud amounting to Rs 69.5 lakh and includes serious accusations of death threats.

The Allegations: A Promise of Property Turns into a Nightmare

The complainant, identified as Gurucharan Singh, a truck body maker residing in Gadariyanpurwa, Fazalganj, narrates a tale of betrayal that began in October 2016. According to his statement to the police, he was introduced to Gajendra Singh Negi, a resident of Kailash Vihar in Rawatpur, through a mutual friend named Atul Sharma.

Negi reportedly offered to sell Singh two shops and a flat in an under-construction building located in Keshavpuram. He assured Singh that the construction would be completed within one and a half years, after which he would provide the official registry and physical possession of the properties. Lured by this offer, Gurucharan Singh paid a staggering Rs 65 lakh in cash to secure the deal.

Later, Negi collected an additional Rs 4 lakh in cash and another Rs 50,000 via an RTGS transfer, all under the guise of construction costs. For these payments, he even issued a receipt, adding a veneer of legitimacy to the transaction.

Evasion, Threats, and a Delayed Police Response

The promised timeline came and went, but neither the registry nor the possession of the shops and flat materialized. When Gurucharan Singh repeatedly tried to contact Negi to seek an explanation or a refund, the accused began evading him. As the pressure mounted, the situation turned uglier.

Singh alleges that Negi, when finally confronted, threatened to kill him. Negi allegedly boasted of his high-profile connections to intimidate the complainant into silence. Fearing for his safety and having lost a fortune, Gurucharan Singh first approached the police with a complaint in 2022. However, he claims no concrete action was taken at that time.

Frustrated, he then appealed directly to the Police Commissioner. It was only on the Commissioner's orders that the Rawatpur police station officially registered a case and initiated an investigation into the serious allegations.

A Notorious Figure Behind Bars

The accused, Gajendra Singh Negi, is no stranger to the law. More than a dozen cases are already registered against him, painting a picture of a habitual offender involved in land and financial crimes. His recent arrest was a significant operation by the Crime Branch.

He was apprehended near the Ganga Barrage on September 20. Following his arrest, he was remanded to custody and subsequently shifted to Maharajganj jail. This new case adds another layer to the long list of charges he is facing. When contacted about the latest development, ADCP West Kapildev confirmed that the matter is under active investigation.

The case highlights the persistent challenge of land mafia operations in urban areas and the ordeal victims face in seeking justice. It also underscores the importance of vigilant law enforcement action against such entrenched networks to protect common citizens from sophisticated frauds.
