Kanpur Police Encounter Leads to Arrest of Three Robbery Accused
In a dramatic early morning operation, a joint team of SWAT commandos and Dibiyapur police station personnel conducted an encounter that resulted in the arrest of three individuals involved in a recent robbery case. The incident unfolded in the early hours of Sunday near Heera Mod on the Dibiyapur-Achhaldaa canal track.
Violent Confrontation During Routine Check
The police were conducting regular vehicle checks when they stopped the three accused—identified as Shivam, Pradeep, and Asad. According to official statements, the suspects immediately opened fire on the police officers upon being intercepted. The police team responded with retaliatory firing, during which two of the accused sustained bullet injuries to their legs.
The injured individuals were promptly transported to CHC Dibiyapur for primary medical treatment. All three suspects are now in police custody and facing interrogation regarding their criminal activities.
Recovery of Stolen Property and Weapons
During the operation, police recovered significant evidence from the accused, including Rs 2.60 lakh in cash, a laptop, a mobile phone, and illegal firearms. The recovery directly links the suspects to a robbery that occurred just hours earlier on Saturday evening.
The original robbery took place on the Barru-Phaphund road within the Dibiyapur police station jurisdiction. The victim, Brajesh Gupta—a soft drink agency operator—was returning home after collecting market dues from the Sahar area when three individuals on a motorcycle snatched his bag containing two days' cash collections, a laptop, a mobile phone, and important documents.
Police Investigation and Interrogation Details
Following the robbery incident, Superintendent of Police Abhishek Bharti personally inspected the crime scene and issued necessary instructions to expedite the investigation. The swift police response led to the identification and tracking of the suspects within hours of the crime.
During subsequent interrogation, the arrested accused revealed that they had committed the robbery along with another associate who remains at large. Police recovered specific amounts from each individual: Rs 1.10 lakh in cash and a country-made pistol from accused Shivam, Rs 1.25 lakh in cash from Aashish, and Rs 25,000 in cash from Ashad, totaling the Rs 2.60 lakh recovery.
Law Enforcement Response and Community Impact
This operation demonstrates the coordinated efforts between specialized SWAT units and local police stations in tackling serious crimes. The successful apprehension of the robbery suspects within such a short timeframe highlights improved police responsiveness and investigative capabilities in the Kanpur region.
The recovery of both stolen property and illegal weapons suggests these individuals were involved in more extensive criminal activities beyond this single robbery incident. Police authorities have indicated that further investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend the remaining associate mentioned during interrogation.
Local residents have expressed relief at the swift police action, particularly given the violent nature of the confrontation. The incident serves as a reminder of the risks law enforcement officers face daily while performing their duties to maintain public safety and security.
