Kanpur Shopkeeper Suffers Fractured Leg in Horrific Car Dragging Incident
In a shocking display of road rage and alleged police negligence, a fast-food shopkeeper in Kanpur was brutally dragged for approximately 50 metres on the bonnet of a car. The incident, which occurred on April 4 at Sajari in the Chakeri area, has sparked outrage as the accused driver is reported to be the son of a retired sub-inspector and was allegedly in an intoxicated state at the time.
Violent Altercation Escalates into Life-Threatening Assault
The victim, identified as Dhrumit Pandey, sustained severe injuries, including a fractured leg, and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in critical condition. According to his brother, Manish Pandey, the ordeal began when a youth arrived in a car around 9:30 PM and continuously honked for about 10 minutes. The driver behaved indecently and, when confronted by bystanders, started hurling abuses and threatening the crowd, boasting that his father was a retired police officer.
As Dhrumit and his brother were closing their shop, the accused suddenly turned the car and hit Dhrumit, dragging him on the bonnet for a significant distance before fleeing the scene. Manish Pandey recounted that the driver initially tried to run over people present at the spot after they protested his abusive behavior, leading to both brothers getting dragged on the vehicle.
Family Alleges Police Inaction and Delayed Response
Family members have accused the local police of failing to take immediate action following the incident. They claim that despite filing a complaint, law enforcement did not respond promptly, allowing the accused to evade capture. Acting in-charge of Chakeri police station, Javed Ahmad, confirmed that a complaint was lodged at Sanigwan Chauki and a case is being registered. He stated that a raid was conducted at the accused's residence, but the individual was found to be absconding, with a dedicated team now deployed for his arrest.
The emergence of a video capturing the incident has added to public fury, highlighting the brazen nature of the attack and raising questions about accountability and justice in such cases.
