Kapurthala MC Withdraws Notice, Removes Seal From Sweet Shop

The Kapurthala Municipal Corporation (MC) has withdrawn its notice and removed the seal from New Ahuja Sweets & Restaurant, following court proceedings, providing major relief to the establishment's owner, Vishal Ahuja. Ahuja confirmed the development on Thursday.

Background of the Sealing Drive

The restaurant was sealed by the MC a day before the mayoral election over alleged building-related violations. The establishment is owned by Vishal Ahuja, husband of Congress councillor Neha Ahuja. The sealing drive sparked heated exchanges, and after several hours of action, the MC team, led by the Assistant Town Planner (ATP), sealed the premises.

Court Challenge and MC's Response

Challenging the action, Vishal Ahuja approached the court. According to him, during the hearing, the court questioned the MC on how the building could have been granted a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) and other necessary approvals if it was allegedly illegal. Ahuja claimed that the civic body was unable to provide a satisfactory response.
