Kerala Police Intensify Probe into Teen's Tragic Suicide
The Ernakulam rural police in Kerala have launched a detailed investigation into the heartbreaking suicide of a 16-year-old girl, with a key focus on examining her mobile phone to recover deleted files. This move aims to verify claims that the teenager took her own life after learning about the death of a Korean social media friend.
Forensic Analysis of Mobile Device Underway
The girl's phone has been sent to the regional forensic laboratory in Thiruvananthapuram for advanced data mining. Superintendent of Police K S Sudarshan stated that a seven-member special investigation team is leading the probe. "So far, we have not been able to establish a relationship with any Korean friend," Sudarshan said on Monday.
He explained that the mobile phone was seized to conduct a thorough investigation. "In a preliminary examination, we found no leads. Therefore, using advanced technology, the phone will be analysed to see if there are any deleted files and, if so, check them as well," the SP added.
Suicide Note and Cultural Interests
The investigation has revealed that the girl left a suicide note indicating she had a Korean friend who died, and her suicide was due to depression over this loss. "But from the note, we were not able to establish who this person was," Sudarshan noted.
Preliminary findings show the teenager was interested in learning the Korean language and watching Korean cinema. However, police have found no evidence to support rumors that she accessed a page named Black Venom. "We do not know if she was cheated, but it needs to be checked whether it was some hallucination or relationships linked to her Korean pop culture consumption," Sudarshan emphasized.
Statements Collected, But Leads Remain Elusive
Authorities have collected statements from several friends, relatives, and others connected with the girl. "But we did not get any strong lead from them," the SP admitted. The girl was found dead in a quarry pond in Chottanikkara on January 27, adding a layer of urgency to the investigation.
As the forensic analysis progresses, police hope to uncover digital evidence that might clarify the circumstances surrounding her tragic death. The case highlights the complex interplay between social media, mental health, and cultural influences among youth today.
