Six Kerala Police Personnel Suspended for On-Duty Alcohol Consumption in Public
In a significant disciplinary action, six police personnel attached to the Kazhakkoottam police station in Thiruvananthapuram were suspended on Monday. The suspended officers include Grade ASI Binu and five civil police officers (CPOs): Ratheesh, Manoj, Arun, Akhilraj, and Arun. The incident came to light when a citizen recorded video footage of the policemen, dressed in civilian attire, sitting inside a car and consuming alcohol. This footage was subsequently shared with senior police officers, leading to immediate action.
Visuals that emerged on Tuesday showed the vehicle parked directly in front of the Kazhakkoottam police station. It was reported that the policemen had stepped out to attend a wedding function when the incident occurred. However, a preliminary inquiry conducted by the assistant commissioner of police in Kazhakkoottam deemed this justification insufficient, as they were officially on duty at the time and were expected to uphold professional conduct at all times.

The inquiry termed the incident a "serious lapse" and described it as "completely unacceptable" for members of the police force. Based on the detailed report submitted to the city police commissioner, disciplinary action was swiftly initiated.
