Krishnagiri: A youth from Kerala was arrested for allegedly smuggling 220 grams of methamphetamine on a State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) bus, near Hosur in Krishnagiri district on Monday night. The arrest was made by the SIPCOT police during a routine vehicle check at the Jujuwadi check post on the Bengaluru-Chennai-Salem National Highway.
Details of the Arrest
The accused has been identified as K Vinjo, 31, a resident of Thrissur in Kerala. Police intercepted the bus, which was en route from Bengaluru to Thoothukudi, and conducted a thorough search of passengers' luggage. During the search, they discovered the contraband hidden in Vinjo's possession.
Preliminary Investigation Findings
Initial investigations revealed that the drugs were procured in Bengaluru and were being smuggled to Salem and various parts of Kerala. The police have launched a detailed probe to identify other individuals involved in the smuggling network. Authorities suspect that this could be part of a larger drug trafficking operation.
Meanwhile, the arrested individual was produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody at the Salem central prison on Tuesday. Further investigations are underway to trace the source and distribution channels of the methamphetamine.
