The prosecution on Saturday completed the examination-in-chief of two key witnesses in the in-camera trial of the Nasrapur minor girl rape and murder case. These witnesses were produced to support the 'last seen together' theory against the accused.
Court Proceedings
Special public prosecutor Ajay Misar represented the state before special judge S.R. Salunkhe. The accused, currently in judicial custody, attended the proceedings via video conferencing. With the conclusion of Saturday's proceedings, a total of eight prosecution witnesses have been examined since the trial began.
Additional Evidence and Charges
During the session, the prosecution also placed additional documents and exhibits from the investigation onto the court record. A significant portion of the day was dedicated to the prosecution's application to alter the charges by adding Section 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to causing the disappearance of evidence or giving false information to screen an offender.
Defence counsel Karim Jiwani argued against the plea, and as arguments from both sides remained inconclusive, the court adjourned the matter to June 1. The court is expected to pass an order on the addition of the new charge on Monday after hearing the remainder of the arguments.
Trial Progress
The fast-moving trial commenced on Friday, during which six witnesses—including the victim's parents—recorded their depositions. The trial continues to progress swiftly as the court examines all evidence and testimonies.
