Security Forces Ramp Up Anti-Terror Operation in Kishtwar District Against Jaish Militants

Security forces have significantly intensified their ongoing anti-terror operation targeting three Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. The operation, which was launched in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar, has prompted authorities to continue the suspension of internet services across several locations to facilitate the security efforts.

Internet Services Suspended to Curtail Disruptive Activities

Internet services remain suspended in areas within a 6-kilometer range covering Singpura, Arigam Dwathar, and Naidgam. This suspension has been in effect since January 23 and has been extended until Friday at 11:59 PM, according to an official order issued by the Jammu and Kashmir home department. Officials cited by news agency PTI stated that the suspension aims to curtail anti-national activities that could potentially disrupt the security operation and compromise its effectiveness.

Operation Hampered by Challenging Terrain and Weather Conditions

The anti-terror operation, which commenced on January 18 in the snowbound region, has faced significant challenges due to the difficult geography and harsh weather conditions. Despite multiple contacts with the terrorists, the militants have managed to evade capture by utilizing the rugged environment to their advantage. The encounter on the first day of the operation resulted in the tragic death of one paratrooper and injuries to seven other soldiers, highlighting the perilous nature of the mission.

Subsequent encounters on January 22 at the Mali Dana top and on January 25 in the Janseer-Kandiwar region also concluded with the insurgents escaping into thick vegetation and snowbound terrain, further complicating the efforts of the security forces.

Parallel Search Operation Underway in Poonch District

In a related development, a separate search operation is currently underway in the Surankote area of the Poonch district. This operation was initiated following reports of two suspicious individuals spotted near Pajja Morh and Nabana top. Troops have cordoned off the sector as a precautionary measure. As per the latest updates, no contact has been established with the suspects, and the search continues.

Context of Heightened Military Activity in the Region

This heightened military activity follows a significant victory for security forces just a week prior, when a high-ranking Pakistani JeM operative was neutralized in the Kathua district. The current manhunt in Kishtwar is widely viewed as a continuation of strategic efforts to dismantle JeM cells that are operating within the dense forest belts of the region. Security analysts emphasize that these operations are crucial for maintaining stability and countering terrorist threats in Jammu and Kashmir.

The combined efforts of the security forces underscore a determined approach to address security challenges, with a focus on minimizing risks to civilian populations while effectively targeting militant elements. The situation remains dynamic, with authorities closely monitoring developments and adjusting strategies as needed to ensure the safety and security of the area.
