A judicial first-class magistrate court in Ernakulam has acquitted a sixty-five-year-old man from Pukkattupady. The court found him not guilty of attacking a priest and his wife in Kochi.
Court Delivers Verdict After Examining Evidence
The magistrate delivered the order on January 8. Abdul Nassar faced serious allegations from an incident on February 23, 2021.
Prosecutors claimed he waylaid the priest on Park Avenue Road. They said he kicked the priest's car door and verbally abused him. The accusation included a physical slap across the face.
Key Reasons Behind the Acquittal Decision
The court carefully reviewed all evidence before reaching its conclusion. Several critical factors influenced the final verdict.
Testimony inconsistencies proved significant. The priest and his wife provided statements that did not match perfectly. These discrepancies raised reasonable doubt about what exactly happened. No independent witnesses came forward to support the prosecution's case. The court noted this absence weakened the allegations substantially.
Investigators failed to establish any clear motive for the alleged attack. This lack of reasoning further undermined the case against Nassar.
Legal Proceedings and Defense Representation
During the trial, the court examined seven witnesses total. This included both the priest and his wife who were present during the incident.
A team of three advocates represented Abdul Nassar in court. Rahul Parameswaran, Arul Muralidharan, and Sreekumar K V presented the defense arguments effectively.
The magistrate considered all aspects before declaring Nassar not guilty. The verdict brings closure to a case that has been pending since 2021.
