Kolkata Police Investigate Major Theft at Urbana Residential Complex

Kolkata Police have launched a detailed investigation into a significant theft case reported from the upscale Urbana residential complex located in the Anandapur area of the city. According to official reports, electrical and plumbing materials with a total estimated value of Rs 6,61,885 were stolen from a securely locked basement storeroom within the complex premises.

Discovery of the Theft and Police Complaint

The incident came to light earlier this month when store officials conducted a routine check of the central basement storage facility. Debendu Chanda, the stores officer, along with Gokul Munda, the store assistant, discovered that the lock on the storeroom door had been tampered with. Upon entering, they found numerous boxes that had been emptied of valuable CP fittings, filters, and various other electrical and plumbing items that were stored for maintenance and construction purposes.

Following this discovery, a formal complaint was lodged by Debajyati Nandi, the senior vice-president of the Urbana residential complex. Based on this complaint, the Anandapur Police Station registered a First Information Report (FIR) on March 5 under Section 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to theft involving substantial property value.

Police Investigation and Suspected Insider Involvement

Kolkata Police authorities have confirmed that they are actively pursuing multiple lines of inquiry in this case. One of the primary steps taken by the investigative team has been to secure and review CCTV footage from the complex and surrounding areas. This footage is expected to provide crucial evidence regarding the timing of the theft and potential suspects involved in the crime.

Furthermore, police officials have indicated that they are not ruling out the possibility of insider involvement. Investigators are currently cross-referencing tower location data of several individuals to determine their movements around the time of the incident. This technological approach suggests that modern investigative techniques are being employed to track down the perpetrators.

Value Assessment and Community Impact

After conducting a thorough inspection and verification process, complex officials calculated the total value of the stolen materials to be precisely Rs 6,61,885. This substantial amount indicates that the theft was not a minor incident but rather a carefully executed operation targeting high-value construction and maintenance supplies.

The Urbana residential complex in Anandapur is known as one of Kolkata's premium residential developments, and this security breach has raised concerns among residents about storage facility safety and overall security protocols. The theft of essential electrical and plumbing materials could potentially disrupt maintenance schedules and renovation projects within the complex, affecting numerous residents.

Police authorities have assured that the investigation is progressing systematically, with forensic teams examining the tampered lock and storage area for additional evidence. The case highlights ongoing security challenges faced by residential complexes in urban areas and underscores the importance of robust surveillance and access control measures for storage facilities containing valuable assets.
