Details of the Arrest and Recovery

The arrested individual has been identified as Vijay, aged 45, originally from Pasupathipalayam in Karur district. At the time of his arrest, he was residing in Thathampatty, Salem district. Police officials confirmed that they have recovered 50 sovereigns of stolen gold jewellery from his possession. However, the silver jewellery, which was also reported stolen, has not yet been located, and the investigation is ongoing to trace these items.

Background of the Theft Incident

The burglary occurred at the home of Karuppasamy, a 48-year-old moneylender, located in Ganapathy Nagar, Melsomapet, near Krishnagiri. The family had temporarily left their residence on January 13 to visit their native village near Tirupur for the Pongal festival. Upon their return on January 18, they discovered that their house had been broken into and immediately filed a formal complaint with the Krishnagiri circle police.

In their complaint, the family reported the theft of 50 sovereigns of gold jewellery and approximately 4.5 kilograms of silver. Following this, authorities registered a case and assembled a special team dedicated to tracking down and arresting the perpetrator.

Investigation and Key Evidence

The breakthrough in the case came when police meticulously analyzed CCTV camera footage from the vicinity. This scrutiny led to the identification of the suspect, ultimately resulting in his arrest. The use of surveillance technology proved instrumental in cracking the case, highlighting its importance in modern crime-solving efforts.

Police Advisory for Enhanced Home Security

In light of this incident, the Krishnagiri district superintendent of police has issued a public advisory urging residents to take proactive measures to safeguard their homes. Key recommendations include:

  • Securely locking homes before departing on extended vacations.
  • Informing the nearest police station about prolonged absences to enable increased vigilance.
  • Installing CCTV surveillance cameras in residential properties to deter criminal activities and aid in investigations.

The superintendent emphasized that during night patrols, police personnel will pay extra attention to houses known to be unoccupied. This initiative aims to prevent similar burglaries and enhance overall community safety.

This arrest underscores the effectiveness of coordinated police efforts and technological tools in addressing property crimes, while also serving as a reminder for citizens to prioritize home security measures.
