Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kunal Ghosh has alleged that some people are trying to misuse the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) after a team of officers visited his residence in Kolkata, West Bengal. Speaking to the media, Ghosh stated that he was not at home when the CID officials first arrived. He subsequently requested them to return the next day at 11 AM. However, according to Ghosh, despite waiting until 3 PM, no officers showed up.
Political Reactions and Allegations
The remarks have triggered fresh political debate in West Bengal, with the TMC leader questioning whether investigative agencies are being used for political pressure and intimidation. Ghosh expressed concerns over the timing and manner of the visit, suggesting that it was an attempt to harass him. He emphasized that such actions undermine the credibility of law enforcement institutions.
Ongoing Tensions in West Bengal
The incident adds to the ongoing tensions between political parties and investigative agencies in the state. Allegations of selective targeting and misuse of institutions frequently dominate political discourse in West Bengal. Critics argue that agencies are often deployed to settle political scores, while the ruling party denies any such interference. This latest episode is likely to intensify the debate over the autonomy and impartiality of investigative bodies.
Kunal Ghosh, a prominent TMC leader, has been vocal about his opposition to what he perceives as politically motivated actions by state agencies. He has called for a thorough inquiry into the conduct of the CID officials involved. The CID, for its part, has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.
The development comes amid a broader political climate in West Bengal, where the TMC and opposition parties frequently clash over governance and law enforcement. The state has witnessed several controversies involving investigative agencies, with both sides accusing each other of using them for partisan gains.
