Kurukshetra Police Crack Down on Drug Trafficking Network
In a significant blow to drug trafficking activities, the Kurukshetra district police have executed a decisive operation resulting in the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of a substantial quantity of narcotics. The police recovered 1.493 kilograms of opium during the meticulously planned raid, underscoring their commitment to combating the illicit drug trade in the region.
Coordinated Police Action Leads to Arrests
Acting under the strategic guidance of Kurukshetra Superintendent of Police Nitish Aggarwal, a specialized team from the district's Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) sprang into action. The operation was spearheaded by ANC in-charge Sub-Inspector Satvinder Singh, who deployed his team near Umri Morr on National Highway-44 on January 22, 2026. This location was chosen based on credible intelligence regarding drug movement.
The police received a confidential tip-off indicating that an individual named Sakir, a resident of Bareilly district in Uttar Pradesh, was actively involved in the sale of opium, smack, and heroin. The information suggested that Sakir would be arriving in the Kurukshetra area on the same day, transporting opium from Bareilly via Ambala by bus with the intent to distribute it locally.
Surveillance and Seizure at Pipli Bus Stand
Responding swiftly to the intelligence, the ANC team proceeded to the Pipli bus stand and initiated covert surveillance operations. After a period of vigilant monitoring, the officers observed a young man standing under the Pipli flyover, whose behavior aroused suspicion. The police promptly detained him for questioning.
Upon interrogation, the individual identified himself as Sakir. In accordance with legal protocols, a thorough search was conducted in the presence of a Gazetted Officer. This search led to the discovery and recovery of 1.493 kg of opium from Sakir's possession. The seized narcotic substance was immediately secured as evidence.
Legal Proceedings and Expanded Investigation
Following the seizure, the Kurukshetra police registered a formal case against Sakir under the stringent provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Thanesar Sadar police station. Sakir was officially arrested by the ANC team and taken into custody.
The investigation did not stop there. Police officials pursued further leads, which resulted in the arrest of a second accused, Gurjeet, a resident of Adalti Wala village in Patiala district, Punjab. Gurjeet is alleged to have been involved in procuring the narcotic substance, indicating a broader network. Both accused individuals were subsequently produced before the competent court, where legal proceedings are currently underway to ensure justice is served.
