A young labourer lost his life in a tragic accident on Monday while carrying out repair work at a hotel in Ranchi. The incident has sparked outrage over the alleged lack of safety measures at the worksite.
How the Fatal Accident Unfolded
The victim has been identified as Mantu Kumar, a 25-year-old native of Aurangabad district in Bihar. At the time of the accident, he was working on the fourth floor of a hotel located within the limits of the Hindpiri police station in Ranchi.
According to police statements, the tragedy occurred when the rod Kumar was using for support suddenly broke. This caused him to lose his balance and plunge to the ground. He sustained severe head injuries and was declared dead on the spot.
Outrage and Demands for Justice
The sudden death has left the local community and the victim's family in a state of shock and anger. Relatives and local residents have squarely blamed the contractor overseeing the work for negligence.
They have accused the contractor of failing to provide basic safety equipment and protocols that could have prevented this fatal fall. A primary demand emerging from the aggrieved party is for adequate compensation to be provided to Kumar's bereaved family.
Police Intervention and Assurances
Sunil Kumar Singh, the in-charge of Hindpiri police station, intervened to manage the tense situation. He facilitated a discussion between the grieving family members, the contractors involved, and the hotel management.
"The contractor has assured to pay compensation," stated Singh. He further added, "We would also try to ensure the family receives benefits from relevant government welfare schemes." Following the necessary procedures, the victim's body was sent for a post-mortem examination.
Mantu Kumar, who lived in the Madhukum area, worked as a labourer to earn his livelihood. His untimely death highlights the persistent issues of workplace safety for daily wage workers in the construction and repair sector.
