The Karnataka Lokayukta police have apprehended a Bescom Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) and a contractor for allegedly accepting and paying a bribe of Rs 20,000. The operation took place in Bengaluru following a complaint from a resident who claimed the officials demanded the bribe to clear pending electricity bills.
Details of the Trap
The complainant, a resident of the city, approached the Lokayukta after the Bescom AEE and the contractor allegedly sought a bribe to settle his outstanding electricity dues. Acting on the complaint, the Lokayukta police laid a trap and caught the duo red-handed while they were accepting the bribe amount.
Arrests and Legal Action
Both the AEE and the contractor have been taken into custody and are being questioned. The Lokayukta has registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Further investigations are underway to determine if there were other instances of bribery involving the same officials.
