A tragic incident of suspected double suicide has shaken a village in Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi district. A man and a minor girl were found dead, hanging from a tree, in what police believe is a case stemming from a love affair.
The Fateful Morning Discovery
The grim discovery was made on Saturday morning in Daulatpur village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Tadiyawan police station. The bodies of the couple were spotted hanging from a mango tree, approximately 500 metres away from the village. The search for them had begun the previous night after both failed to return home.
Sequence of Events Before the Tragedy
According to police accounts, the man had left his home on Friday evening, telling his family he was going to attend a feast in a nearby village. The girl, who was a minor, had told her family she was going to collect green vegetables from the fields. When neither individual returned home till late at night, concerned family members launched a search but found no trace of them.
The search resumed at dawn on Saturday, leading to the heartbreaking discovery. A poignant detail noted by the police was that the man had applied vermilion (sindoor) to the girl before their deaths, a ritual symbolizing marriage in Hindu tradition.
Families and Police Investigation
Police were immediately alerted, and family members of both the deceased rushed to the spot. The deceased man was identified as the youngest among three brothers. The girl was the only sister among three siblings.
Preliminary findings by the police point towards the suicide being a consequence of a love affair. Inquest proceedings have been completed. Authorities have stated that further legal action will be determined based on formal complaints from the families and the results of the post-mortem reports.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over Daulatpur village, highlighting the severe social and personal pressures that can lead to such extreme steps.
