The event led to widespread panic and rumours of a 'chemical spray gang' operating in the locality before police intervention clarified the situation.
Night of Confusion and Panic
According to initial accounts from alarmed residents, the commotion began when a woman entered the residential building. She was reported to have knocked on multiple flat doors. When some women residents answered, she allegedly sprayed an unidentified substance at them. In the heightened tension, rumours quickly spread that not one, but three suspicious women were involved, using what was described as a 'sedative spray' to target occupants.
As panic surged through the apartment complex, residents banded together to intercept the alleged perpetrators. In the ensuing chaos, two of the rumoured women were said to have fled, while one was successfully apprehended by the crowd. The situation remained volatile as the detained woman was handed over to the authorities.

The Thakurganj police took charge of the investigation and the detained woman. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Chowk, RK Singh, provided clarity after a thorough probe. The police dismissed the criminal theories that had spread like wildfire among residents.
ACP RK Singh stated, "The spray found in her possession was a standard room freshener. Due to the late hour and the woman's erratic behaviour, residents mistook it for a poisonous or intoxicating substance." The police confirmed that it was only a single woman involved, not a gang of three as initially feared by locals.
The woman reportedly exhibited hysterical behaviour at the Thakurganj police station and even allegedly attempted to use the spray on police personnel. Officers managed to trace her family, and she was subsequently handed over to her relatives for care.
