In a significant move to alleviate chronic traffic congestion, the Lucknow Traffic Police have expanded their innovative U-turn traffic movement system to the historic old city area. This new arrangement now covers the bustling route from Rumi Gate to Kudiya Ghat, a stretch notorious for frequent gridlocks during peak hours.
Detailed Traffic Diversion Plan for Old City Routes
The implementation introduces specific diversions to streamline vehicle flow. Traffic originating from Teeli Wali Masjid and heading towards Madeyganj, near the New Pukka Bridge, will now take a diversion at the Kudiya Ghat Crossing. From there, vehicles will proceed via the New Pukka Bridge to reach their intended destinations efficiently.
New Routing Directions for Commuters
Conversely, traffic approaching from the New Pukka Bridge will turn left at the Kudiya Ghat Crossing and continue towards Rumi Gate. Vehicles coming from the Rashtra Prerna Sthal side are permitted to travel up to the Kudiya Ghat Crossing before proceeding to their respective endpoints.
In a key adjustment, DCP Traffic Kamlesh Dixit explained, "Traffic coming from Rumi Gate towards Kudiya Ghat will turn left at Kudiya Ghat Crossing and take a U-turn at Gulala Ghat to proceed to their respective destinations." This maneuver is designed to prevent bottlenecks and ensure smoother transitions at critical junctions.
Positive Feedback from Previous Implementations
The decision to extend this system was influenced by its successful trial in Hazratganj and other busy intersections across Lucknow. DCP Dixit noted, "This move was brought into force after its successful run in Hazratganj. Initially, people objected, but after more than a week, they not only got used to it but also highly appreciated the move." The initial skepticism gave way to widespread approval as commuters experienced reduced travel times and fewer delays.

Since the implementation of these new arrangements, traffic management at the Kudiya Ghat Crossing has seen marked improvements. DCP Dixit added, "With the implementation of these arrangements, traffic management at Kudiya Ghat Crossing has improved significantly, providing relief from frequent traffic jams in the area."
