In a significant blow to the narcotics trade, the Lucknow police on Tuesday launched a massive, coordinated operation across the city, resulting in the arrest of six alleged drug peddlers. The drive, touted as one of the largest of its kind in the state capital, targeted illegal drug sales and distribution networks.
Major Joint Operation Targets 30 Hotspots
The operation was conducted by a joint task force comprising the Anti-Narcotics Team (ANTF), SWAT, surveillance units, and local police. Teams fanned out across 30 different locations identified as hotspots for drug-related activities. Key areas raided included Bharwara Crossing, areas near Fun Mall, Madiaon Bridge, and Singapore Mall, among other public and commercial hubs.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Bablu Kumar, who supervised the drive, stated that these locations were chosen based on repeated complaints from citizens regarding drug use and sales. "The drive targeted hotspots where repeated complaints were received regarding drug use and sales," he explained.
Arrests and Ongoing Investigations
As a direct result of the raids, six individuals were taken into custody on charges of peddling narcotics. All arrested suspects are currently being questioned at various police stations. Furthermore, the police have identified over 100 suspects to gather more intelligence and unravel the broader network supporting the drug trade in the city.
Police Commissioner Amrendra Kumar Sengar issued a stern warning, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy. "Any form of illegal activity related to drug use or sales in Lucknow will not be tolerated. Taking citizen complaints seriously, swift and effective action is ensured," he asserted.
Sustained Campaign and Accountability
The police have declared that this is not a one-off event but the beginning of a sustained campaign. In the coming days, a week-long intensive drive will be launched involving all Station House Officers (SHOs), outpost in-charges, the ANTF, and the SOS team. Their objective will be to identify drug peddlers and collect actionable information.
To ensure accountability, Joint Commissioner Bablu Kumar made it clear that action will be taken against SHOs and outpost in-charges if illegal drug sales are discovered in their jurisdictions. The police reiterated their commitment to continuing anti-narcotics operations across Lucknow with the ultimate goal of making the city free from drugs.
