Lucknow Police on Wednesday arrested a Bangladeshi national who was allegedly living illegally in India and operating a small clinic in the city using forged Indian identity documents.
Arrest Details
The accused, identified as Arup Bakhshi, 37, a native of Devbhog area in Narail district of Bangladesh, was arrested from under the Vipassana Meditation Centre flyover on Kisan Path in the Bakshi Ka Talab (BKT) area around 2:10 am on Wednesday, said Vikas Kumar Pandey, assistant commissioner of police, BKT.
Investigation Findings
According to police, the investigation revealed that the accused had been running a small clinic-cum-shop in the BKT area, where he allegedly treated patients and dispensed medicines while posing as an Indian citizen using forged identity documents.
During questioning, he allegedly admitted to illegally entering and residing in India and obtaining fake Indian documents, including identity papers, to continue operating the establishment, added SHO, BKT, Sanjay Kumar Singh.
Complaint and Legal Action
The case came to light after a complaint was lodged on May 16 by sub-inspector Yogendra Kumar of BKT police station alleging that the accused had procured an Indian voter identity card, Aadhaar, driving license, and passport using forged documents.
Police are further investigating the matter to uncover any network involved in supplying fake documents to illegal immigrants.
