Massive raid uncovers fraudulent call centre in Lucknow
Lucknow Police have busted a fake international call centre operating in the city, detaining 119 people during a coordinated raid on Monday. The operation, led by the cybercrime unit, targeted a facility that allegedly defrauded foreign nationals through fake tech support and financial scams.
Police seized 100 laptops, 178 mobile phones used for calling, and other digital devices, along with important documents and electronic evidence. The suspects were taken into custody for questioning, and authorities are working to identify the masterminds behind the operation.
Details of the operation and evidence
The raid was conducted based on a tip-off about suspicious activities in the area. According to a police spokesperson, the call centre was set up to impersonate representatives of well-known tech companies, tricking victims into paying for fake services. The detained individuals include operators, team leaders, and administrative staff.
"We have recovered a large amount of digital evidence that will help us trace the financial trail and identify other accomplices," said the spokesperson. The investigation is ongoing, with a focus on the money laundering aspect of the crime.
Impact and next steps
This is one of the largest crackdowns on cybercrime in Uttar Pradesh this year. The police have urged citizens to remain vigilant against such scams and report any suspicious calls. The detained individuals are being processed, and charges are expected to be filed under the Information Technology Act and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
