A car driver and a gym owner from Ludhiana died in a horrific road accident near ITI Chowk in Lalru, Mohali, on Friday morning, while two other occupants of the car sustained minor injuries.
Victims identified as Manjot Singh and Ravi Kumar
The victims were identified as 23-year-old Manjot Singh of Ludhiana and the driver, Ravi Kumar, who died on the spot. Manjot Singh owned and operated a gym in Ludhiana, according to police.
Stray animal caused the crash
According to the police, the accident occurred when a stray animal suddenly came in front of the SUV, which was heading towards Delhi. While trying to avoid the animal, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to hit the divider and overturn. Lalru ITI Chowk is a designated black spot where accidents are frequently reported throughout the year.
SUV badly damaged; rescue operation launched
The impact of the collision was so severe that the SUV was badly damaged. In a statement to the police, the deceased's father, Amarpal Singh, said that Manjot Singh had left for Delhi with his friend Akash Verma, security guard Rajiv Kumar Pandey, and driver Ravi Kumar when the accident occurred. Akash Verma sustained minor injuries in the accident, while Rajiv Kumar Pandey escaped unhurt. On receiving information about the incident, the Lalru police reached the spot and initiated rescue operations. The police took possession of the bodies of the deceased and sent them for postmortem examination.
Family says no negligence, no legal action sought
In his statement, Amarpal Singh said it was an accident and that there was no negligence on anyone's part. He added that the family had not sought legal action against anyone.
