In a significant crackdown on street crime, the Ludhiana Police have apprehended a man accused of terrorizing residents with an illegal firearm and robbing them. In a separate but coordinated operation, the police also arrested three individuals involved in multiple snatching cases, recovering a cache of stolen items.

Armed Robber Nabbed in Night Patrols

The primary accused, identified as Sahib alias Sahil of Ludhiana, was arrested by a team from the Division No. 4 police station. The arrest was part of a special anti-crime drive initiated on the directives of Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma and Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Rupinder Singh.

According to officials Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone One) Sameer Verma and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Central) Anil Kumar Bhanot, the police team, led by Inspector Gurjit Singh, recovered a .32 bore country-made pistol from the suspect's possession.

Investigations revealed that Sahil allegedly targeted pedestrians during night hours in several areas, including Noorwala Road, Kakowal Road, Kailash Nagar, Basti Jodhewal, Gehlewal, and Meharban. He reportedly used the illegal weapon to intimidate victims before looting their cash and mobile phones.

Confession and Legal Action

During preliminary questioning, the accused confessed to the crimes, citing financial difficulties as the motive. The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Arms Act at the Division No. 4 police station. Authorities plan to produce him before a local court to seek remand for further interrogation, aiming to uncover any links to other incidents or potential accomplices.

Three Snatchers Held in Separate Sting

In a parallel success, the Ludhiana Police arrested three alleged snatchers and recovered a significant haul of stolen property. The accused have been named as Manav Kumar, Manpreet Singh, and Krishan Kumar, all residents of Ludhiana.

ADCP (1) Sameer Verma and Assistant Commissioner of Police (North) Kikkar Singh provided details, stating that a team from Salem Tabri police station, under Inspector Harshveer Singh, executed the operation.

The breakthrough came on December 23, when a team led by ASI Jinder Lal, in-charge of the ELDECO police post, set up a checkpoint at Kadian Cut. Acting on a specific tip-off about habitual offenders entering the area to sell stolen goods, the police intercepted the trio.

The recovery from the snatchers included:

  • Eight stolen mobile phones
  • Three motorcycles
  • An iron cutter
