The Ludhiana police have launched a special initiative to recover mobile phones that were lost, stolen, or snatched in the industrial hub over recent months. A total of 369 devices were recovered, and after verifying the owners, Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma handed them over during a ceremony at the Police Lines on Friday.
Focus on Migrant Labourers
Notably, more than 100 of the recovered phones belonged to migrant labourers who had been targeted by snatchers. Speaking to the media, Sharma highlighted that Ludhiana's industrial presence attracts workers from across the country, who contribute significantly to the nation's progress. However, complaints had been received about mischievous elements snatching their mobiles, causing financial loss and mental distress.
Police Drive and Investigation
In response, special instructions were issued to police station heads and zonal officials to conduct a massive drive to recover stolen, lost, or snatched phones. After months of investigation, the Ludhiana police succeeded in recovering 369 mobiles and tracing their rightful owners. Among those present at the event were Rupinder Singh (ADCP), Harpal Singh (Deputy Commissioner of Police, Investigation), Amandeep Singh Brar (Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Investigation), ADCP-1 Sameer Verma, and ADCP Karanvir Singh.
Technical Tracing via CEIR Portal
A special campaign was launched to technically trace lost phones by blocking their IMEI numbers on the CEIR portal. This yielded positive results, leading to the recovery of the devices. The Commissioner appealed to the public to report any lost mobile to their nearest police station or Saanjh Kendra immediately to prevent misuse by antisocial elements.
