Main Accused in Influencer Murder Case Arrested Following UAE Deportation
In a significant breakthrough, Punjab Police have apprehended Amritpal Singh Mehron, aged 31, the primary accused in the high-profile 2025 murder case of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari. The arrest followed Mehron's deportation from the United Arab Emirates, marking a crucial development in this long-pending investigation.
Arrest and Court Proceedings
Upon his arrival at Indira Gandhi International Airport during the early hours of Friday, a specialized police team immediately took Mehron into custody. He was subsequently transported to Bathinda, where he was produced before a local court. The judicial authority remanded him in police custody for a period of five days, as confirmed by DSP Sarabjit Singh Brar.
Background of the Crime
The victim, Kanchan Kumari, aged 30, was widely recognized online under the pseudonym Kamal Kaur Bhabhi. Her lifeless body was discovered inside her vehicle in the parking area of Adesh University, located near Bathinda, on June 11, 2025. The post-mortem examination conclusively determined that she had been strangled to death.
Mehron had publicly claimed responsibility for this heinous act, citing intense anger over Kumari's alleged obscene social media content as his primary motive. Prior to the murder, he had issued warnings to Kumari, demanding that she delete her videos and cease using the surname "Kaur". Mehron asserted that her lifestyle choices and online presence disrespected this traditional title.
Investigation and International Manhunt
Shortly after committing the crime, Mehron fled to the Middle East, evading capture. However, his three associates—Jaspreet Singh, Nimrat Jit Singh, and Ranjit Singh—were successfully apprehended by Indian authorities. In a pivotal turn of events, Mehron was detained in Sharjah during January 2026.
Following his declaration as a proclaimed offender by a Bathinda court, a Red Corner Notice was issued against him. Punjab Police, in close coordination with central investigative agencies, meticulously traced his location and initiated extradition proceedings, ultimately leading to his deportation and arrest.
Victim's Family Demands Justice
The family of Kanchan Kumari has vehemently demanded the most stringent punishment for Mehron. Girja Devi, the victim's mother, emotionally stated, "He killed her only because he did not like the content she posted." This sentiment underscores the profound impact of the crime on the bereaved family.
Profile of the Accused
Amritpal Singh Mehron, a former mechanic who holds an ITI diploma, had previously ventured into politics. He contested the 2022 assembly elections as a candidate for the SAD (Amritsar) party but was unsuccessful. Prior to the murder, Mehron led a self-styled organization named ‘Qaum De Rakhe', which specifically targeted social media influencers.
Additionally, Mehron is already implicated in two separate criminal cases. These include allegations of vandalizing statues at Amritsar's Heritage Street in 2020 and threatening a music producer in Barnala in 2021, highlighting a pattern of confrontational behavior.
