Man arrested for attacking wife and in-laws in T'puram

Thumba police on Tuesday arrested Ananthu Shaji (23) of Kadakampally and two accomplices in connection with an attempt-to-murder case involving an attack on his wife and her family members at Attipra. The two arrested accomplices are Anu V S (34) and Shankar S (44).

Details of the Attack

According to police, Shaji forcibly entered his wife Archana's house on Sunday night around 10pm following a family dispute, and attacked her, her parents and sister using a knife, a beer bottle and an iron rod. The injured are Archana (23), her father Anilkumar (56), mother Bindu (52), and sister Aswathi (24). All sustained injuries during the attack and were admitted to hospital.

Sequence of Events

According to the complaint, Shaji reached the house carrying a knife following an ongoing family dispute. Police said Anilkumar attempted to stop him from entering the house and questioned his actions. During the altercation, Shaji allegedly struck Anilkumar on the head using a bottle lying nearby. He then allegedly attacked others using a knife and a wire.

Arrest and Legal Proceedings

After the incident, the accused allegedly went into hiding at Vettamangalam, where the police tracked them down and arrested them. The accomplices were booked for harbouring and helping the main accused evade arrest. Police said Shaji is an accused in around eight assault cases registered at Pettah and Thumba police stations. All three were produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody.
