Pettah police arrested a 42-year-old man for allegedly attempting to murder a Karikkakom resident after forcibly entering his house and attacking him with a machete on Friday evening.
Details of the Incident
The accused has been identified as Anil Kumar of Karikkakom. Police said the incident occurred around 6pm. According to investigators, the attack was triggered after the victim, Abdul Rahim (54), informed police about a man who allegedly used to create nuisance near his house and verbally abuse women residing in the locality.
Motive and Sequence
Police said the accused reportedly misunderstood that Rahim complained against him and decided to retaliate. The accused allegedly barged into Rahim's house and threatened him before attacking with a machete. The assault created panic in the neighbourhood.
Rahim sustained injuries to his leg and was admitted to a hospital. Police said Kumar was taken into custody soon after the incident.
