Tragic Self-Immolation at Ahmedabad Hospital Claims Life
A 29-year-old man died after setting himself on fire at a hospital in Ahmedabad's Fatehwadi area on Thursday night, in what police describe as a disturbing incident linked to unrequited love. The deceased has been identified as Kamran Pathan, who allegedly took the extreme step after confronting a 28-year-old woman working at the medical facility.
The Fateful Evening at the Hospital
According to police reports, the tragic sequence of events began around 8:30 PM when Pathan entered the hospital premises carrying petrol. The situation escalated quickly when an argument broke out near the reception area between Pathan and the woman, who had reportedly been facing repeated harassment from him previously.
During the confrontation, Pathan poured the fuel on himself and ignited it. The flames spread rapidly through the corridor, creating a dangerous situation for everyone present. The woman, who was caught in the immediate vicinity, suffered burn injuries while attempting to save herself from the sudden inferno.
Multiple Casualties and Brave Rescue Attempts
The incident resulted in multiple injuries beyond the primary victim. The female hospital staff member collapsed after sustaining burns during the incident. Another hospital employee who courageously tried to assist Pathan during the self-immolation also suffered injuries in the process.
Eyewitness accounts and videos captured by locals show chaotic scenes as people desperately tried to douse the flames using whatever means available - including water, cloth, and fire extinguishers. In his burning state, Pathan ran toward the staircase and tragically fell from the first floor into a dental clinic located on the ground level.
Aftermath and Police Investigation
Pathan was immediately rushed to Sola Civil Hospital for emergency treatment and was later transferred to Asarva Civil Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after midnight. The dental clinic where he fell also suffered significant damage due to the fire.
Sarkhej police inspector S A Gohil confirmed that authorities have registered an accidental death case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. The inspector added that the woman's official statement will be recorded once her medical condition stabilizes and she is able to provide details about what transpired.
The injured woman remains under medical treatment for her burns, while the community grapples with the shock of the tragic event that has left one person dead and multiple others injured.
