Tragic Incident in Wayanad: Man Dies in Apparent Suicide by Fire, Family Injured

A devastating incident unfolded in Wayanad district, Kerala, late on Thursday night, resulting in the death of a 45-year-old man and injuries to his wife and young daughter. The man, identified as Sajeer M P, allegedly set himself on fire inside a car in what appears to be a suicide attempt, sending shockwaves through the local community.

Details of the Fatal Event

The tragic event occurred around 10 pm at Erumatheruvu near Mananthavady in Wayanad. According to preliminary reports, Sajeer parked the car in front of the house of E C Bappu, an individual with whom he had financial and business dealings. It is alleged that he then poured petrol on himself before igniting the flames, leading to a horrific scene.

Sajeer was a resident of Malayanteparambath House at Vallithode near Iritty in Kannur district. His wife, Najmunnisa, aged 37, and their two-year-old daughter, Aisha, sustained burn injuries in the incident. Najmunnisa has suffered severe burns covering approximately 50% of her body, while Aisha's injuries are reported to be minor. Both are currently undergoing treatment at the Mananthavady Government Medical College Hospital, where they are receiving medical care.

Family Members and Escape

Miraculously, the couple's two sons, Nibran (14) and Nisan (9), managed to escape unhurt from the burning vehicle. Reports indicate that the eldest son, Nibran, displayed remarkable bravery by managing to get out of the car and pulling his siblings and mother to safety, potentially preventing further tragedy. This quick thinking amidst the chaos highlights the family's ordeal.

Background and Allegations

Prior to the incident, Sajeer recorded a video in which he leveled serious allegations against E C Bappu. He claimed that he had handed over a building, in which he had invested Rs 1.2 crore, to Bappu after receiving Rs 25 lakh. Sajeer alleged that Bappu was supposed to return the building once the money was repaid, suggesting financial disputes may have played a role in his distress.

Additionally, Sajeer recorded another video making allegations against another person to whom he had given his textile shop to run. These recordings point to potential business and financial troubles that might have contributed to his state of mind leading up to the tragic event.

Police Investigation Underway

The Mananthavady police have launched a thorough investigation into the incident. A police inspector stated that they are examining all aspects, including the videos recorded by Sajeer and the circumstances surrounding his financial dealings. The investigation aims to uncover the full story behind this heartbreaking suicide attempt and the injuries sustained by his family members.

This incident has left the local community in shock, raising concerns about mental health and financial pressures. As the police continue their probe, the focus remains on the recovery of Najmunnisa and Aisha, and the well-being of the surviving children.
