Ahmedabad Man Arrested for Allegedly Planning Acid Attack on Estranged Wife
The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) in Ahmedabad has made a significant arrest, apprehending a man accused of planning an acid attack on his estranged wife. The arrest occurred as the suspect was allegedly attempting to flee the city, with officials confirming the details on Saturday. This case has drawn widespread attention due to its violent nature and the underlying social tensions involved.
Details of the Acid Attack Incident
The victim, a resident of the Nikol area in Ahmedabad, suffered injuries to her lips and eyes after an unidentified biker threw a corrosive substance at her on the evening of March 27. The attack took place near Neelkamal Society, close to Naroda Galaxy, as she was returning home from her workplace at a showroom near the Naroda railway crossing. According to police reports, the attacker approached the victim on a motorcycle, flung an acid-like substance at her, and quickly sped away from the scene.
Upon hearing her screams, locals rushed to her aid and immediately shifted her to Civil Hospital for initial treatment. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was later transferred to M&J Eye Hospital, where she is currently undergoing medical care. The victim initially filed a complaint with the police against an unidentified person under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for causing grievous hurt using acid.
Investigation and Arrest of the Husband
In her statement to the police, the victim mentioned that suspicion initially fell on her father due to longstanding family disputes. She explained that her father had been living separately for nearly 13 years and had opposed her marriage, which took place in 2023 against his wishes. However, the investigation took a dramatic turn when evidence emerged pointing towards her husband's involvement in the attack.
Police revealed that the couple had been experiencing marital discord for the past six months, leading the victim to move back to her maternal home. Utilizing human intelligence and technical surveillance, DCB teams tracked the husband's movements and detained him while he was allegedly trying to escape Ahmedabad. He was subsequently arrested for allegedly orchestrating the acid attack.
Officials also noted that the father had previously attacked the husband two years ago, resulting in a police complaint at the Nikol police station. This earlier incident had initially strengthened suspicions against the father in the current case. The arrest has highlighted the complex family dynamics and ongoing conflicts surrounding the marriage.
