Ghaziabad Police Arrests Man Accused of Violating Golden Temple's Sacred Pond
In a significant development, Ghaziabad police on Saturday took into custody a man accused of performing 'wazu' inside the sacred pond of the Golden Temple in Amritsar 11 days ago. The individual, identified as Subhan Rangrez, was subsequently handed over to Punjab Police for further legal proceedings.
Complaints and Confrontation Lead to Arrest
The arrest of Subhan Rangrez followed two separate police complaints filed on the same day. One complaint was lodged by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) in Amritsar, while another was filed by a group of Nihangs who confronted him at his residence in Ghaziabad. This confrontation escalated into an altercation, prompting police intervention.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) for Ankur Vihar, Gyan Prakash Rai, stated that a group of individuals visited Subhan's home, leading to the altercation. Police stepped in, arrested Subhan, filed a challan, and sent him to judicial custody. The incident was captured on video, showing the arrest process.
Social Media Videos and Apologies
A video uploaded on the social media handle of Akali Jasvinder Singh appears to depict a man slapping a person believed to be Subhan, although this could not be independently verified. The caption accompanying the video, written in Punjabi, asserts: "Whoever has dared challenge the Sikh community is brought to justice." Another video features a man explaining that a formal complaint was registered at the Ankur Vihar police station in Ghaziabad.
Following the incident, both the individual who allegedly slapped Subhan and the cameraperson were later shown apologising, highlighting the emotional and sensitive nature of the case.

Police investigations are currently underway in both Ghaziabad and Punjab, as confirmed by officers. The authorities are working to gather all necessary evidence and statements to ensure a thorough examination of the events surrounding the alleged violation at the Golden Temple.
