Tragic Train Accident Claims Life of 50-Year-Old Man at Tipkai Railway Station in Dhubri

A 50-year-old man, identified as Sukumar Roy, lost his life after being hit by a train while crossing the railway track at Tipkai railway station in Dhubri district. The incident occurred around 11:30 PM on Friday, sending shockwaves through the local community.

Details of the Fatal Incident

According to the Government Railway Police (GRP), the deceased was crossing the track from the opposite side of the station when he was struck by the Silghat-bound Rajyarani Express. GRP sources indicated that Roy was wearing a muffler wrapped around his ears, which may have prevented him from hearing the approaching train, leading to the tragic accident.

The GRP recovered Roy's body on Sunday morning and subsequently sent it to Dhubri Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Following the necessary procedures, the body was handed over to his grieving family members.

Community Response and Safety Concerns

Local residents revealed that Sukumar Roy ran a stationery shop at Tipkai market, located near the railway station. He is survived by his wife and two sons, who are now mourning his untimely demise.

Bhargav Brahma, a resident of Tipkai, highlighted a critical safety issue at the station. Although the station is equipped with a footbridge, many people frequently use an unmanned crossing some distance away to cross the tracks, putting their lives at risk.

"People have been demanding for a long time that the railway authorities construct a footbridge at the level crossing area, but this demand has not yet been fulfilled," Brahma stated, emphasizing the urgent need for improved safety measures to prevent such accidents in the future.

Separate Incident in Gauripur Town

In a separate and concerning incident in Gauripur town, three workers became unconscious while working underground inside a water tank due to a severe lack of oxygen. Quick-thinking local residents rescued all three individuals and rushed them to Dhubri Medical College and Hospital for immediate medical treatment.

This incident underscores the importance of workplace safety protocols, particularly in confined spaces where oxygen levels can drop dangerously low. The condition of the workers remains under observation as they receive necessary care at the hospital.

These back-to-back incidents in Dhubri district have raised significant concerns about public safety and infrastructure, prompting calls for authorities to address these issues promptly to safeguard the well-being of residents and workers alike.
