A minor disagreement over dinner turned fatal in Kamareddy town on Saturday night when a 28-year-old scrap vendor was allegedly attacked by his wife with a sickle after he shouted at her for not cooking chicken.
Incident Details
The victim, Kodandam Shivaji, a resident of Gosangi Colony, reportedly picked a quarrel with his wife Laxmi around 9 PM on Saturday over her failure to prepare chicken curry. Their relatives, Dadaiah and Sharada, who reside nearby, intervened and managed to pacify the couple temporarily. However, shortly after they left, the argument resumed, with Shivaji again accusing Laxmi of not cooking according to his wishes and blaming her for other domestic issues.
Escalation and Fatal Attack
As the quarrel intensified, another relative, Nandini, attempted to calm them down, but the couple continued arguing. During the altercation, Laxmi allegedly picked up a sickle kept in the house and struck Shivaji on the neck. He collapsed from the assault, sustaining a head injury from the fall, and died on the spot due to excessive bleeding, as confirmed by Kamareddy inspector B Narahari.
Background of the Couple
According to a complaint filed by the victim's elder brother, Suri, Shivaji had married Laxmi about six years ago, and the couple had two daughters. They had been living in a rented house owned by their relative Dadaiah for the past six months. Family members informed police that Shivaji and Laxmi frequently quarreled over domestic issues, and elders had intervened multiple times in the past to resolve their disputes.
Legal Action
Based on Suri's complaint, a case was registered against Laxmi under Section 103(1) (murder) of the BNS on Sunday. The body was handed over to the family after post-mortem examination on the same day. Police arrested Laxmi on Monday, and she is expected to be produced before a court for judicial remand.
